Ch. 3 Ep. 8: Exciting Food!

You're exhausted from training with Mari and Kanan. Aqours is the real deal. You head to the kitchen to help You and Yoshiko with making samples of food for the festival, when suddenly you hear a terrible scream from inside!

Player

Excuse me?

Player

(It sure is nerve-wracking entering a different school all by myself.)

Player

(Chika waited until the very last minute for me to get back to the ryokan.)

Player

(But after the three of us went running, chatting, and more running, a lot of time passed.)

Player

(I said I was going to help, and I'm off to a bad start at that. Everyone's working hard, so I have to make it up to them.)

Player

Hm, where is everyone? Wait, what is that delicious smell?

Player

“Cooking Room.” It's coming from here. Oh, someone's inside.

[Fade in/out.]

You

*Gulp* Wahhhh! Spicy! Ih ho hicey Hohiko! Water, gimme water!

Yoshiko

You'll never rise in the little demon ranks if something like this makes you shriek so loud. Also, I'm not Hohiko. It's Yoshiko. I mean, it's Yohane.

You

*Gulp* Ahh! I don't know what you're talking about. That stuff is seriously spicy though! What did you put in there? Cayenne? One of your disciples? An eagle talon?

Yoshiko

Habanero powder.

You

Yoshiko, I'm not going to tell you no spicy food. All I want to say is that you need to learn a little restraint.

Yoshiko

It's not Yoshiko, it's Yohane! I used restraint!

You

Yeah right!

Player

H-Hello.

Yoshiko

Oh, the new little demon from the Rainbow Metropolis is here. Already come to help?

Player

(Rainbow Metropolis?! She's given me a wild title here.)

Player

Yeah. I was looking for everyone when I smelled something tasty. Are you cooking?

You

It's a trial dish for some food we're making for the festival. We're trying to figure out what we want to make.

Player

Wow! Festival food is the key to success. You two must be outstanding cooks if they're leaving this job to you.

You

Oh no, not at all! We worked in a seaside restaurant before, so we have some experience cooking.

Player

That's cool. Yoshiko, you're working on the happi design too, right?

Yoshiko

Heh heh heh. The magical delights Yohane makes for the festival will make all humans fall from grace!

You

Well, it had a devil's taste to it, that's for sure.

Player

That's pretty harsh. What did you make, Yoshiko?

Yoshiko

Bloody Moon Sticks. They're also known as “Tears of a Fallen Angel: Revolution”! You should try some.

Player

Interesting name. Is this takoyaki? They're on skewers like dango dumplings.

Player

You can eat these while walking around!

Player

(What flavor is it? Judging by You's reaction, it must be painfully spicy.)

Player

Well, down the hatch! *Munch*

Player

Mm! Wah, it's so spicy! Whoa whoa whoa!

You

I knew that would happen! Want some water?

Player

Yes!

Yoshiko

Ugh! What is wrong with you two? No need to squeal. Is it seriously that spicy? It's like, just tangy at most.

Player

It'd make for a great story, so how about making it a challenge food?

Yoshiko

Uh huh. I see. A great method for weeding out those too weak to become little demons!

You

No one could pass that test! Hmm, if it weren't so spicy it'd actually be yummy. It has a decent flavor to it.

Player

What about making different hotness levels? You could make a sweet and spicy one for kids or something.

Yoshiko

Kids… Hm. You do have a point. Suddenly thrusting humans into the world of demons is a bit too much. I'll rethink the flavor.

You

Good!

Player

You, what did you make? Omelet rice?

You

*Giggle* Have a bite!

Player

Sure, don't mind if I do.

Player

*Munch* Mm! This is yakisoba noodles! With fried egg on top!

You

Exactly! It's Niceoodles, my specialty! I made it at that seaside restaurant and people loved it. This one has extra seafood.

Player

Yeah, there's lots of seafood in it. Perfect for a seaside town. The ketchup drawing on the egg is cute, and it feels more special than regular yakisoba.

You

Hehe! Thanks!

Player

So for the festival you're going to make Niceoodles and takoyaki?

You

The takoyaki needs some improvement. We want to satisfy everyone's hunger and hearts when they come to this festival.

Yoshiko

Just leave that to me. I'll seduce the tongues of all humankind. Men, women, children and the elderly!

You

We're thinking of a few different desserts, too. Crepes, chocolate-dipped bananas, cotton candy… That'd be kind of hard though.

Yoshiko

Don't you think we have our hands full with just the two dishes we have now? We only have so much space to use, too.

Player

You might be right. But sweets…that's a hard one to rule out.

You

Hmm… Hey, how about frozen mikan oranges? You just have to freeze them!

Yoshiko

They're hard to peel. They make your hands wet when they melt, too.

Player

How about peeling and segmenting them before freezing?

Player

Put them in a cup like a snow cone and people can walk around with them.

You

Whoa, that's a good idea! We'll call them “Nibble Mikans”! What a great name!

Yoshiko

Hmm… It certainly is a lot less work than crepes or chocolate bananas.

Player

You don't seem very excited about it, Yoshiko.

Yoshiko

Just as angels and devils loathe each other, Yohane and mikan oranges have a deeply ingrained hate for one another.

Player

Yoshiko, what did mikans ever do to you?

You

Well, Niceoodles, takoyaki, and Nibble Mikans will be shining on the Aqours Summer Festival menu!

Player

I hope a lot of people come to eat them!

Yoshiko

Yes. Also, it's not takoyaki. They're Bloody Moon Sticks! Get it right on the menu!
