Ch. 13 Ep. 6: An Absolute Condition

The more time the school idol club members spend with Shioriko, the more they want to understand her. You agree to help the student council and talk strategy with Shioriko.

Shioriko

Now then, can I hear your thoughts on how we should proceed regarding discussions with the club heads at the next school tour meeting?

Player

I read the document from the last meeting. Your goals for the tour and for the future of the school were clearly outlined and very easy to understand.

Player

I could tell how passionate you were when writing it. But…

Shioriko

But what? You're complimenting me, but not one of the clubs was satisfied with my proposal.

Player

I really liked some parts of it because it seemed like you were thinking of the school, but other parts didn't feel that way. They felt too overbearing.

Player

This goes for my club, too, but I think every club has something they aren't willing to compromise. That's why…

Shioriko

That goes for me as well.

Player

Yeah. That's completely understandable, but I think the problem is you've been unable to have a proper discussion with the clubs up to now.

Shioriko

What do you mean?

Player

From what I heard from Ayumu and Setsuna, you and the club heads ended up arguing at the last meeting, right?

Player

It'd be fine if you proposed your ideas and asked them what they thought, but it sounds like you didn't listen to what they had to say. You just forced your opinions on them.

Shioriko

I told everyone to speak up if they had anything to say.

Player

But did you seriously consider what they had to say once they did?

Shioriko

If what they say is worthy of consideration, then I listen carefully.

Player

You may not consider it worthy, but they probably do.

Player

If anything, they probably think your ideas aren't worthy of consideration. We're all human, so it makes sense that we have differing opinions.

Player

But that's why we have to talk things out and try to come to an agreement. If you dismiss people because you don't think their points are valid, no one wins in the end.

Shioriko

I understand, but nothing would get done if I simply listened to what everyone had to say. They would say whatever they felt like and then leave it all to me to deal with.

Shioriko

My plan would achieve results for both the school and students in the most efficient manner. Even if no one likes it now, they will eventually realize I was right all along.

Player

Hmm, I don't think humans are that simple. I think they still want to do things even if they know they're not efficient.

Shioriko

I do not understand.

Player

But if you give up because you don't understand, no one will know where you're coming from.

Player

It'd be such a shame if they never knew that you were doing all of this for them.

Player

Anyway, I think you can do this. Because, even though you think being a school idol is a waste of time, look at how diligently you've been practicing.

Shioriko

Th-That's because…

Player

But I know what you mean when you say that nothing will ever be resolved if you listen to everyone. That's why you need to figure out what points you absolutely can't concede.

Shioriko

Points I can't concede?

Player

That's right. It's impossible to make them accept everything you propose, so just tell them what things you're set on.

Shioriko

Well, I want to easily show students the charms of each club, and I want them to know the merits of joining and how it can help them in the future. Also, if they're suited…

Player

Wait a minute! I told you you can't choose everything! What's the one thing that's most important to you?

Shioriko

If I had to choose just one…

Shioriko

I want to prioritize students' skills. Even if it means they may not get into the club of their choice depending on the tryout results. I am not willing to compromise on this.

Player

I think that'll be the hardest thing to get people to agree to.

Shioriko

Yes. But that is what is most important to me.

Player

Every club wants more new applicants, so no one will see this rule as a good thing. It'd be an overall negative for the school, too.

Player

And besides, does the student council president even have the power to decide that students can't join a club without trying out?

Shioriko

I will convince everyone.

Player

Hmm. Why are you so hung up on students' skills? You brought it up a lot during the student council election, too.

Shioriko

That is because doing something that you are not good at cannot make you happy.

Shioriko

Nothing good can come from students who do whatever they want or who think they just want to have fun. I don't want to see anyone else sad and regretful because of that.

Player

Anyone else? Did that happen to someone you know?

Shioriko

Yes. I have a whole list of people like that here.

Player

What? This list is giant. How many pages is this? What in the world…

Shioriko

For example, Yamaguchi from the tennis club, who is a very hard worker. She is a third-year so the latest tournament was the final definitive one for her.

Shioriko

However, a first-year was chosen to compete over her. She pretended she was fine, but I saw her crying once she was alone. Her efforts hadn't paid off, and she had failed.

Shioriko

There's also Yabe from the wind instrument club, Nanami from the track team, and also my…

Shioriko

Oh, um. In any case, Nijigasaki High School will prioritize students' skills. It would be unfair to not make this clear to prospective students, so I will not yield on this.

Player

Shioriko…

[Fade in/out.]

Setsuna

I cannot go along with that!

Ai

I get where she's coming from, but this is too much.

Emma

I could never tell someone who wants to join that they aren't allowed to because they aren't good enough.

Shizuku

I don't like this either. All I can think about is how it's going to feel for the people who won't be able to do what they want.

Kasumi

I thought she was softening up a tiiiny bit, but that Shioko is so stubborn!

Player

But she was definitely serious. I think she really doesn't want anyone to be sad. I want to respect her feelings, but…

Ayumu

This is tough.

Player

It's tough, but this is reality. We don't have much time. We have to think of a plan that both Shioriko and the club heads will be satisfied with. Can I ask you all to help?

Kanata

Of course.

Karin

We can't put on our live show if we don't do something about this.

Rina

I'll try to come up with a good idea.

Player

Thank you, everyone.
