Ch. 10 Ep. 3: Helping and Supporting
μ's and Aqours also appeal to Shioriko to keep the club active. She tells them that she will allow them to remain on one condition: for the midterms, all of the School Idol Club members must score 60% or above in all subjects!
Ai
That's it for practice today! So, you all ready for a study sesh?
Shizuku
Yes, please.
Kanata
Please go easy on us.
Rina
I sure hope I do a good job.
Ai
It's all up to these two here. Why don't we start by looking at your last test scores?
Kanata
Boy, this is kind of embarrassing…
Shizuku
I feel the same way. Having someone point out all of your mistakes is pretty scary.
[Fade in/out.]
Ai
Hmm, hmm. I see, I see. Ah, yes.
Rina
Not bad at all. You have better grades than me in a lot of subjects.
Ai
Right? Looks like we didn't have a whole lot to worry about. But your science and math scores? These are pretty dire.
Shizuku
Urgh… I've never been good at science or math.
Kanata
Me neither. They're just so hard, I get super sleepy. Just hearing about them gives me a headache…
Rina
Kanata, Shizuku, you can do it. Rina-chan Board says, “Let's do this!”
Ai
Oh, but studying isn't something you can just bang your head against 'til you get it. It's not gonna stick unless you really wanna learn.
Rina
That might be true. It's not easy to get motivated.
Ai
But we've gotta figure out how to do it no matter what! Our club depends on it!
Shizuku
Y-Yes! You're right! I will do my very best, so please don't lose faith in me!
Kanata
I will, too! Studying is just something we have to do, after all.
Rina
Now you're motivated! Rina-chan Board says, “Serious!”
Ai
All right, let's get this over and done with!
Ai
Oh, hold on a sec. I've got a message from Ruby. She says she wishes she could join in on the science and math study session.
Rina
It's a shame she's so far away in Numazu.
Shizuku
Yes, it would be difficult for her to come all the way out here on a weekday.
Ai
It would be more exciting to study with everyone here. I'll tell her we should study when we meet up on Saturday.
Kanata
It's hard to get excited over subjects you're bad at, though.
Rina
The harder you think it is, the harder it'll be.
Ai
Yeah, what Rinari said! You should think of math as like, a puzzle or a game!
Shizuku
A puzzle or game?
Kanata
I just don't get math. Vertices, graphs, and all that. It's not like we'll ever use that stuff in real life.
Ai
Yeah, you normally wouldn't. I really don't get why we need to be taught that kind of stuff.
Shizuku
Yes. This might sound extreme, but I think all one really needs to get by would be addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication.
Ai
To be honest, you're probably right. But you gotta learn this stuff if you wanna pass your tests. It's kinda like a key item you gotta have to win the game, y'know?
Ai
Also, math isn't that hard. Here, let's try solving this problem.
Shizuku
Urgh… Just the mere sight of a quadratic function makes me want to give up.
Kanata
I'll try my best. I wanna get my grades up no matter what.
Ai
You're probably thinking there's a lot of work in this, right? Well, there really isn't.
Shizuku
What do you mean by that?
Ai
If you take a real close look at the questions, there's plenty of hints for which formulas to use.
Ai
Once you figure out how to find those, all you gotta do is plug and play. You don't have to put any more thought into it.
Ai
See here, Shizuku? This textbook has tips for worded math problems and what combinations of formulas to use. Have a look.
Shizuku
Okay.
Kanata
Lemme see… Oh, I get it. I never knew there were hints hidden here. Ai, do you have a textbook like that for me, too?
Ai
You bet I do! But I don't know third-year stuff myself, so I asked Eli about it.
Kanata
Yay! Thanks!
Shizuku
I'd memorized the formulas, but I had no idea how to apply them up until now. But this textbook makes it all very easy to understand!
Ai
Math is easy-peasy once you understand the tricks behind it!
Shizuku
Did you bring this book just for us today?
Ai
Nah, it's not mine. I got it from the library. We totally lucked out finding something so easy to understand!
Shizuku
You even went through the trouble of preparing studying materials. Thank you very much!
Ai
C'mon, this is barely preparation. But now those quadratic functions aren't so scary, huh? You can master quadratic functions with a square night's slumber!
Kanata
I prefer sleeping in a circle, myself.
Shizuku
You do realize that was a play on words?
Ai
You two sure know how to kill a joke.
Rina
Now then, onto the next problem. I'm not great at explaining it out loud, so I'll explain using this.
Ai
Ooh, a flip board, huh? And you're just using pictures? I've seen celebrities doing this before!
Rina
I'm no celebrity, but here I go.
Kanata
*Chuckle* This looks like it's going to be interesting.
Shizuku
It sure does. I'm really looking forward to it.
Ai
Yeah! Changing how you view things can make even something you hate fun, even studying. Take that little insight home with you today!
Kanata
Will do! I think I might actually start liking math.
Shizuku
All right! Kanata, let's ace our next math exam!
