Maki Ep. 14: My First Part-Time Job
Maki still seems gloomy after seeing Rin and Hanayo's matching pen cases. You then happen to spot her in the shopping mall.
Player
(I wonder what's on Maki's mind. I hope I can help her out…)
Player
I've still got some time today, so maybe I'll buy a cake or something on the way home. That's a nice treat to have every once in a while.
Player
Huh? Is that who I think it is over there?
Maki
Would you like a sample?
Maki
We are offering samples of our new cake.
Maki
W-Wait…
Maki
Hm… Nobody's stopping for a sample and I'm just about to head into my break now…
Player
Maki!
Maki
What are you doing here?!
[Fade in/out.]
Player
I see you're working hard! So you were looking at the part-time job listings to apply for this place, then.
Maki
*Sigh* And of all the people to bump into, it just had to be the person I least wanted to see right now.
Player
I've had a part-time job handing out food samples as well. It's pretty hard to get people to stop, huh?
Maki
Really?!
Maki
Then, could you give me some pointers? What do I do when something like this happens?
Player
Well, my way of approaching it is…
Option 1: “You should put yourself in the shoes of the customers!” |
---|
Player I think it's important to put yourself in the shoes of the customer. Whether it be the flavor or the price, people won't buy it unless they find it appealing somehow, right? Maki If I were the customer, huh? This cake has a tropical fruit jelly on top and is really refreshing on the palate. It's a flavor that can't be experienced elsewhere. |
Option 2: “You should find out what makes the product so good!” |
Player I think it's important for you to find out what makes this cake so good yourself. You can't recommend it to others otherwise. Player Have you eaten this cake before? Maki Of course I have. It has a refined sweetness that's not too overwhelming. I honestly do want to recommend it to people. |
Maki
Oh, I get it now. I shouldn't just say I'm offering samples, but I need to explain the selling points of the cake.
Maki
I'm kinda starting to think I can handle this now. Thanks.
Maki
I'm gonna head off since my break's almost over. I can't show you any more of this uncool side of me either way.
Player
Okay! Get those samples out there, Maki!
[Fade in/out.]
Maki
This cake has a tropical fruit jelly on top and is very refreshing. Please do have a taste.
Maki
Also, this cake has a refined sweetness—
Player
(Maki's handling the customers with such care! She's got a lot of them crowding around now so it looks like she'll be okay.)
[Fade in/out.]
Player
Hey Maki. Did handing out the cake samples go all right after we spoke yesterday?
Maki
Yes, a lot of people tried the cake, thanks to you.
Player
I'm glad to hear it! I knew that if anyone could do it, it'd be you.
Maki
Something occurred to me… I was so focused on earning money that I don't think I approached my part-time job seriously.
Maki
It was only for a day, but now I know what it's like to work. It was way harder than I expected, but I managed to experience both the important and the fun aspects of it.
Maki
So, I really appreciated your help.
Player
You don't have to thank me. You're just reaping the rewards of taking your job seriously.
Maki
And now I can finally buy that thing I've had my eye on.
Player
(I wonder what she's going to buy with her paycheck.)
