Kanata Ep. 26: For Other People
Kanata has been trying out various things to understand the emotions of the ninja girl protagonist from the Manga Club's movie. But no matter what she tries, she ends up behaving like her usual self. What should she do?
Player
We did ninja training, right? Then we researched their food, and…
Kanata
We even did special training on shurikens and disguises.
Kanata
And despite all that, I just can't act like a ninja.
Kanata
It feels like no matter what I do, it just ends up being too much like how I usually act.
Kanata
I really want to be all “swish,” “whoosh,” like the ninja girl in the movie.
Player
Hmm. Still, now you know a lot about ninja stuff! I think that alone makes this a success.
Kanata
*Groan* You're not being very helpful right now.
Player
Well, how about instead of just ninjas in general, you think about what kind of person the ninja girl would be?
Player
Knowledge about ninjas is important, but thinking about the ninja girl's feelings and the tone of the movie is also crucial in getting a feel for the song.
Kanata
That's a good point…
Kanata
Oh! So, maybe I was too focused on the fact that the character is a ninja?!
Player
I think that I was, too. I was having so much fun researching ninjas with you that I just ended up focusing on that aspect.
Player
Speaking of the ninja girl, didn't the movie say that she had some kind of special power? Hmm…
Kanata
The story is about how she has a ghostly monster inside of her. She uses its power to fight other ghostly monsters, but she keeps it a secret.
Kanata
And it's really powerful, so using its powers leaves her absolutely worn out.
Kanata
But despite that, she still fights to save everyone.
Kanata
Because she wants to see everyone's smiling faces.
Player
Don't you think that part might be something you and her have in common?
Kanata
Huh? But the only person that I have inside of me is me.
Player
No, not that. I mean how you'll take on anything to help someone out, even if it seems impossible.
Kanata
What? I don't think I'm like that at all.
Player
Hmm, maybe it's not exactly the same thing. But no matter how late you stay up studying for a test, you always get up early the next day to make lunch for Haruka, right?
Kanata
Yeah, but that's for Haruka. That's just normal, right?
Player
Well, it's the same for the ninja girl. No matter how worn-out she gets, she keeps on fighting because she wants to see everyone's smiling faces.
Kanata
So we're…kind of alike?
Option 1: “You're totally alike!” |
---|
Player You're totally alike! Kanata If you're that certain, maybe you're right. |
Option 2: “No doubt about it.” |
Player No doubt about it! Kanata Y-You're really that sure? |
Kanata
All right. I'll believe you. I'll try thinking about the ninja girl again from that perspective.
