What is today's training about, Kanata?

Today's training involves one of my strong suits!

We're going to try and recreate ninja food!

Like what?

Well, that's the question. What do ninjas eat?

Hmm… Wild grass or something?

Nope!

I looked it up. Ninjas used to eat something called hyorogan. It's kinda like the energy bars that we have today.

What?! They had something like that?!

It's pretty surprising, right? They're so crafty.

When you think about it, being a ninja requires a lot of strength and stamina, since they have to move around a lot or hide in one spot for a long time.

So they needed food that could help them do that.

That's fascinating… So what is hyorogan made of, anyway?

It's basically made by crushing a bunch of nutrient-rich stuff into powder and then squishing it all together.

Huh. Just like an energy bar.

They must have been thinking about how to make it easy to carry around so that they could eat it during missions and stuff too.

So that's what we're going to try to make!

It reminds me of that black, round medicine you take when you get a stomachache…

It goes down easier than I expected.

Yep. I could get used to this taste…

So in addition to hyorogan, there's also kikatsugan and suikatsugan, so we should try making those too.
