Ch. 9 Ep. 3: To Be the Council Head

The members have decided to support Setsuna's re-election campaign while working towards holding the Festival. You are unanimously elected to be the committee head. Amongst this, Setsuna is concerned by Shioriko's behavior.

Player

Hm? Where did Setsuna go?

Shizuku

Oh, she said she was going to take a break and left just now.

Karin

She didn't seem to be acting like someone going on a break, though.

Ai

Hmm. I thought she'd gotten her groove back when we got together the other day, but it looks like it's still weighing on her mind.

Kanata

Shioriko Mifune has really been upping the intensity of her campaign these days, after all.

Kasumi

She visited all the first-year classrooms today! Apparently, she appears all around the place when break time rolls by!

Emma

We've been trying to casually cheer up Setsuna too, but it hasn't been going well.

Ayumu

Yeah, that's right. Maybe Setsuna will feel better if you lend her an ear.

Player

I'll go look for her. Everyone else, continue with practice!

[Fade in/out.]

Setsuna

I must win. I don't want to be the reason why the club is abolished.

Player

*Huff* *Huff* I found you, Setsuna!

Setsuna

Oh? What's the matter?

Player

I should be asking you the same thing. I came looking for you since you suddenly left practice and that got me worried.

Setsuna

Oh, I'm sorry. Um, I just went to go buy a drink along with my break.

Player

You came to the rooftop to buy a drink?

Setsuna

Oh, uh…

Player

Listen, Setsuna. It can't be helped that you're worried about the re-election, but I want you to talk to me about it rather than carry the burden all on your own.

Setsuna

I-I'm sorry. Um, I'll go back to practice right away.

Player

Please. I want to think about it together with you. I want you to let me wrack my brains. Everyone in the club feels the same way as well, you know?

Setsuna

But… I could see how much work the School Idol Festival preparations would require at our last gathering.

Setsuna

Which is why I figured it wouldn't be right for me to burden all of you.

Player

Not at all! It would be more unbearable for us to not be able to help you. That's why I'm begging you to talk to me.

Setsuna

Thank you very much. Then, is it okay if I just talk to you?

Player

Of course!

[Fade in/out.]

Player

What made you decide to become the student council president?

Setsuna

Well, um…

Player

Is it because you want to make the whole school better?

Setsuna

I'm sorry. I don't have any particularly strong feelings behind my reasons for becoming the student council president.

Setsuna

The biggest motive was following what my parents told me to do.

Setsuna

I was brought up being told that they wanted me to become someone who was proactive and took on leadership roles.

Setsuna

I figured I could be the person my parents wanted me to be if I became the student council president. That's why I did the same thing in elementary and middle school.

Player

So you're not the student council president because you enjoy the role?

Setsuna

Oh, no, that's not what I meant.

Setsuna

I really do feel a sense of accomplishment, and because I've been doing it since I was a child, it has become a part of my life.

Setsuna

Also, my parents don't nag me when I'm the student council president.

Setsuna

But I'm sure they'd be stricter about my curfew and I wouldn't be able to set aside any time for my school idol activities if I lost the student council presidency.

Player

That would be troublesome.

Setsuna

I really must win the re-election.

Player

Right, and we'll all cheer for you. First thing's first, everyone needs to know what exactly it is that you're striving for.

Player

Mifune's posters stated that she would run the school in a way to suit the needs of every single student. What kind of school do you want to create, Setsuna?

Setsuna

What? Uhhh, well…

Setsuna

I've always thought that being the student council president was a behind-the-scenes job.

Player

Okay.

Setsuna

I've always carried out my role by creating a comfortable environment for all the students who attend the school.

Player

So?

Setsuna

So… What I'm trying to say is… Um, the school I'm striving to create is one that is comfortable for…everyone?

Player

I think your ideal school is really great, Setsuna. It means you'll support us so that we can do what we want, right?

Player

But I don't think what Mifune's saying is wrong either. It'd be good if you could come up with something to really make yourself stand out.

Setsuna

Ack, you're right.

Player

I know! How about we ask Eli and Dia how they go about things?

[Fade in/out. On the phone.]

Eli

What do I do as student council president?

Eli

Let me think. I'm careful about listening to every single opinion, no matter how small it may be. I think the average student sees the president as strict and intimidating.

Eli

So I try to keep my door open as wide as possible.

[Fade in/out.]

Dia

I see. So that's why you would like some advice about what you should do as student council president.

Dia

The first thing I do is let the students talk it out themselves as there is a possibility of the students losing their independence if the student council resolves everything.

Dia

As such…

[Fade in/out.]

Player

I see…

Setsuna

The aspect they both share is the strong communication they maintain with the students. I've tried to keep my ear out for everyone by setting up a suggestion box, but…

Player

That's right. When Kasumi and I went to the student council room for the first time, you listened to everything we had to say, so I don't think you're wrong in that respect.

Setsuna

I'll try pushing my approachability to the students by doing things like placing more suggestion boxes around the school.

Player

We'll all help you place them around. Let's get started on making them once practice is over!

Setsuna

Great, thank you very much!
