Ch. 48 Ep. 4: Teach Me Your Trick!
Kasumi and Rina applied for the international exchange elective program. They decide to ask Mia for help in brushing up on their English before they go.
Mia
Teach you English?
Rina
Yeah.
Kasumi
I wanna get fluent in English before I join the International Exchange Experience Program!
Mia
Go ask someone else.
Kasumi
Miakoooooo!
Mia
You can't learn to speak a language in a few days! That takes magic!
Kasumi
Oh, don't be like that! You're my only hope, Miako!
Kasumi
I don't wanna look uncool in front of Shizuko! I already told her I'm secretly really good!
Mia
Why are you saying stuff like that again?
Rina
That's just how she is.
Mia
That's true. That's just Kasumi.
Kasumi
Hey! Don't just agree on stuff like that!
Mia
*Sigh* Why did you even want to take the International Exchange course to begin with? I thought you were taking music?
Kasumi
I don't wanna talk about that anymore.
Rina
They said she couldn't take a second year class.
Kasumi
Don't tell her!
Mia
Good grief… You really are such a helpless Little Puppy.
Kasumi
Ugh… I'll even let you call me that right now. Please teach me, Miss Miako!
Rina
I'm asking too, Mia.
Rina
I'm excited for the International Exchange Experience Program, so I want to study well for it.
Mia
You too, Rina?
Rina
Yeah. I figured it would be nice to get better at English.
Mia
Why's that?
Rina
I need it for online games. I get matched up with people from overseas sometimes, and if we can understand each other I'll increase my win rate.
Mia
I'm sure that's true… It must be important.
Rina
And I want to speak English with you, Mia.
Rina
From time to time I wonder what it would be like if we could talk in English.
Mia
Rina…!
Mia
Alright! Leave it to me!
Kasumi
Don't forget about me!
Mia
I know, I know. There's no way you can become fluent, but do have an idea that might work in this case.
Kasumi
Really?! Tell me your secrets!
Mia
Well, think about the goal of the program.
Kasumi
The goal?
Rina
To allow people to experience classes in the different departments of Nijigasaki, for the school pamphlet.
Kasumi
To have fun experiencing lots of different things!
Mia
You're both right. The goal is to make Nijigasaki even better by deepening your understanding through having fun.
Mia
That means that the classes ought to be enjoyable no matter the capabilities of the students that come to them.
Mia
To put it simply, even people who only know a few English words should be able to get by.
Kasumi
I'm starting to feel good about this!
Mia
I imagine you'll only be having casual conversations.
Rina
Casual conversation…
Kasumi
Like “Good morning!”
Kasumi
Even I can understand that!
Rina
Yeah, I think that's as far as it'll go.
Mia
Well, should we try practicing a few different situations? Things that should come in useful on an overseas trip.
Kasumi
Huh? You mean I have to speak after all?
Mia
That's why they call it conversation. But there's a trick to this too.
Kasumi
Huh?! What is it?!
Mia
Body language.
Kasumi
Body language?
Mia
That's right. For example, pointing at things when you're buying something. If the other person understands you, that's conversation!
Rina
Can I use the Rina-chan Board too?
Mia
Sure you can! That's probably even easier to understand.
Rina
Body language… I'll give it a shot! Rina-chan Board says, “Serious!”
Kasumi
*Exhale* This really makes me feel better! Thank you, Miako! As thanks, I'll teach you a cute pose!
Mia
No thanks.
Kasumi
Why not?!
