Japanese-Style Thanksgiving Day Ep. 5
Honoka
Everything's all ready!
Nozomi
I hope the pie and meat both cook up nicely.
Chika
Everything's sure to taste amazing after all that hard work we put in!
Ruby
I'm glad that we did a good job with the mashed potatoes, too!
Rina
I'm so excited to eat it all. Rina-chan Board says, “Woo-hoo!”
Honoka
It sure is a shame that we didn't know about Thanksgiving Day before now. Look at what a fun holiday it is!
Mia
I was just as shocked that you hadn't heard of it, especially since you celebrate Halloween here.
Chika
If I'd heard of it, I definitely would have thrown a Thanksgiving party.
Chika
Oh, right. How did you do things for Thanksgiving at your place, Mia?
Mia
Nothing special. We eat lots of food, chat a bunch, stuff like that.
Mia
We'd also sit down to watch an American football match or something.
Ruby
That sounds nice. The best celebrations are the ones where you get to eat a bunch of tasty food and spend some fun time with your family.
Rina
Do all of the stores and downtown areas get into the holiday spirit too?
Mia
The opposite, actually. The streets are quiet because everyone celebrates in their own houses.
Mia
Thanksgiving Day is a time when everyone stays at home and takes it easy.
Nozomi
It sounds almost like the New Year's holiday here in Japan.
Chika
It really does!
Honoka
So, do people drop you anything nice around that time too?
Mia
Drop…? Like on Christmas or how there's a “ball drop” for American New Year?
Honoka
No, not that. In Japan, people give out cash to us kids for New Year! It's like a present.
Mia
Huh, that's interesting.
Honoka
Yup! My wallet would be even emptier than it is now without my New Year's cash!
Nozomi
It's really fun to compare holidays like this.
Chika
Since Mia told us all about an American holiday here, we should celebrate a Japanese holiday with her next time! Don't ya think?
Honoka
I like the sound of that! I'd love it if we all wore kimonos together for New Year. And there's even stuff like Setsubun or the Hina Festival!
Nozomi
I hope she can eat some of the delicious foods that are served during celebrations too.
Honoka
Yeah! Stuff like the sweet sake that we drink during the New Year's shrine visit always tastes so good!
Mia
You drink alcohol?!
Honoka
No, SWEET sake. It's more like juice.
Mia
Juice, huh…
Mia
Oh, dang!
