Shizuku Ep. 2: Imaginative Explosion
Shizuku, who loves theater, loves making up stories in her life, too. Her imagination has been just as wild ever since she was a kid.
Player
You get so excited when you talk about acting.
Shizuku
I know! But then I end up talking everyone's ear off. I should really be more self-aware.
Player
What turned you on to plays in the first place? Did you see one and fall in love?
Shizuku
No particular piece made me fall in love. I think I've always been susceptible to imaginary lands.
Shizuku
I don't really make up stories, but I do imagine lots of backgrounds and fool around with them.
Player
Backgrounds?
Shizuku
Yeah. I'll give a stuffed animal a name and make them my friend to play with me.
Player
Oh, I get it. I've done that before. Backgrounds like, they came from planet stuffed animal. Did you ever do that?
Shizuku
Yes, exactly. I gave made up backgrounds to lots of things, including myself.
Player
You did? I bet you got really into playing house.
Shizuku
Yes, I always made up something new when I played house.
Shizuku
Some things I've imagined are that the father is a foreign ambassador, the mom is a housewife, they have two kids and three maids, a driver, and a gardener.
Shizuku
The father always goes overseas for work and even when he comes back, he has to stay in the office and barely ever comes home.
Shizuku
The mother misses her husband, but her two kids keep her company and help her do her best every day.
Shizuku
The older child is in first grade, and the other is in preschool. They're both in private school, and their driver brings each of the children every day.
Shizuku
When their father comes home they have a big party, and they all revel and rejoice to make up for lost time.
Player
What about the gardener?
Shizuku
The gardener is always gardening. Also, the gardener and driver both live at the house, and they've been working for the same family for generations.
Player
Whoever gets the driver or gardener role must be so bored, however pivotal the role is.
Shizuku
I've imagined other scenarios overseas, or fantasy stories where a kid suddenly realizes their magical powers and tries to hide them.
Shizuku
The other kids I played with liked it at first, but eventually they told me it was all too much to remember.
Shizuku
After a while, no one wanted to play with me.
Player
Really… That's incredible, though. You've always had a knack for acting, huh?
Shizuku
I-I suppose so.
Player
Yeah, I think so. I wish we could have played when we were kids. Playing house as a family to a foreign ambassador sounds like fun.
Shizuku
Then! Would you want to play house like that right now?!
Option 1: “Right now?!” |
---|
Player Right now?! Shizuku Yes! I think you would do a wonderful job! Is there any particular role you want to play? The father? The mother? |
Option 2: “What?!” |
Player What?! No, I don't think I could accurately act out the image you have. Shizuku That's not true! You have amazing empathy, so it wouldn't be a problem. How about the role of a wizard that guides the main character? Player U-Umm… You'll have to let me think about it. |
Ai
Hey, let's get back to practice already!
