Shizuku Ep. 1: The Wonder of a Story
You talk with Shizuku, who is on a break from idol club practice for Theater Club. She practices for theater every day to make sure she's ready for stage rehearsal any time.
Player
One, two, three, four… Okay! Let's take five. Here are some towels and drinks!
Ai
Thanks! *Gulp* *Gulp* Ah! So refreshing!
Ayumu
Ai, if you drink something that cold that fast, you'll get a stomachache.
Kasumi
Wait, where's Kanata?
Karin
She's sleeping over there.
Kanata
Zzz…
Player
Sleeping again?
Shizuku
*Huff* *Pant*
Player
Shizuku, here's a towel. Take a drink, too.
Shizuku
Thank you.
Shizuku
Dance practice is so much tougher than I imagined. It's like playing sports.
Player
It's from moving so much while you sing. I tried putting together a routine that works for everyone. Is there any part of it you can't handle?
Shizuku
No, I'm okay. I have some strength from performing in plays!
Player
Right, you can really project your voice. It takes a lot of stamina to act on stage for so long, too. Actually, don't you have rehearsal for a play?
Shizuku
Nope, not at the moment. However, I always keep up with my vocal training and visualization so that I'm prepared when something comes along.
Player
That's amazing. What do you do for visualization?
Shizuku
Well, I read scripts while imagining I'm on stage… Like Shakespeare.
Player
Shakespeare… Like Romeo and Juliet!
Shizuku
Yes, I read that sometimes. I've acted in that play before.
Shizuku
I read lots of Shakespeare. The Four Tragedies like King Lear and Hamlet, A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Tempest…
Player
I've heard of all of those! What were the other two of the Four Tragedies?
Shizuku
I read Chekhov and Racine, Moliere and Greek plays, too. Euripides and stuff.
Player
Euri…?
Shizuku
Whether they're tragedies or comedies, they've stood the test of time for a reason. I can read them over and over, and as soon as I start, I can't stop.
Shizuku
As I read it, I feel myself becoming the character in the play.
Shizuku
Normally a script takes time to suck you in, but classic plays drag readers and actors right into their world from the get-go.
Shizuku
It's almost like I've been living in that world from the very beginning. It's like I'm in this world, but I've been exiled to a whole different world.
Player
…
Shizuku
S-Sorry! I didn't give you any chance to talk!
Player
*Giggle* It's fine. I like seeing how into it you can get.
Shizuku
Y-You do…?
