Riko #729: How to Get Out of a Slump
Riko
Thanks for coming over today, Mia.
Mia
You're welcome. So, I know you messaged me about it before, but you're concerned about your songwriting, right?
Riko
I am. New song ideas just aren't coming to me at the moment, and I don't know what to do.
Riko
I've been poring over Chika's lyrics for all kinds of ideas, but I've got nothing so far.
Riko
I heard from her that you can write tons of songs in a single night, so I thought maybe I could ask you for some advice.
Riko
Do you mind me asking you how you go about writing songs?
Mia
I don't mind. I have a style where I try to go after the perfect song by analyzing songs from all over the world.
Riko
Analyzing songs from all over the world… That's incredible.
Mia
Well, that's how I do it, at least. Each songwriter will have their own approach.
Riko
You're not wrong there. My approach couldn't be more different from yours.
Mia
I don't know if this'll be helpful advice or not, but whenever I had trouble writing songs, I would just try to get notes on paper regardless of whether they were any good.
Mia
If you haven't tried it already, maybe you'd have some luck putting whatever's worrying you to music.
Riko
Put whatever's worrying me to music… I suppose I'll give it a shot.
[Fade in/out.]
Riko
Right, if I do this bit a little differently…then do this bit like so…
Riko
That's it! That kind of melody fits perfectly here!
Mia
Good! You're getting the hang of it.
Riko
Yes! I feel like I can write a song now!
Riko
Thank you, Mia. Thank you so much!
Mia
Once you've finished it, you should invite me to listen to you perform it at a live show sometime.
Riko
Of course! I'll make sure you get a front-row seat!
