Kanan #319: We're Going Stargazing!
Player
Whoa! This is incredible! Look at this star-filled sky!
Kanan
Right? Stars are great in any season, but when the weather starts to get cold the sky gets really clear. There's no better time for stargazing.
Player
That sounds like diving. The sea is clearer in winter, right? And the water's not so cold yet, because water temperatures are on a delayed schedule. I think you told me that.
Kanan
Oh, I'm glad you remembered. *Pat* *Pat* I'm so glad your diving brain is coming along nicely.
Player
My diving brain? Am I going to turn into a creature that can't live without diving?
Kanan
Come on, come over to my side of things!
Option 1: “I'm getting pulled over!” |
---|
Player Whoa! I'm getting pulled over to your side! Kanan *Laugh* We'll put a pin in our ocean adventure for now. Today we're diving into this star-studded sky. |
Option 2: “I won't follow you!” |
Player I won't follow you! I will remain a landlubber. Kanan Whaaat? You're a stubborn one. Just you wait, I'll get you to fall in love with the ocean yet. |
[Fade in/out.]
Player
Whenever I stop to look at the stars, I always end up searching for constellations. Hmmm. I wonder what we'll discover once we start linking stars together.
Kanan
*Chuckle* I thought you might say that, so I brought an essential stargazing companion today. Ta-dah!
Player
Hey, isn't that…a star chart? I haven't seen one in forever. It tells you what constellations you can see depending on time and place, right?
Kanan
Yup. Since I was little, I always use this to find constellations. When it was too cloudy to see anything I'd take a pen and doodle shooting stars all over it.
Player
Shooting star doodles? But I don't see any.
Kanan
Because I gave that copy away.
Player
To who?
Kanan
That's a secret.
Player
What? Why? Oooh, I'm so curious. Who was it?
Kanan
I'll tell you later. Besides, we should be looking at the stars right now. I wonder which constellations we can spot.
Player
You're so mean, Kanan. Hmm, according to this chart we can find Aquarius. But…I don't know where. Do you?
Kanan
I think it's somewhere around there. Constellations are pretty hard to find if you're not used to stargazing. Capricorn should be right by Aquarius, by the way.
Kanan
If you go straight up from the zenith you should find Pegasus. Look, you can see four extra bright stars right there. That's called the Great Square of Pegasus.
Player
*Giggle* You seem to be enjoying yourself, Kanan.
Kanan
Of course I am. I get to do something I love with you. I've gone stargazing many times, but the sky I'm looking at now is the most beautiful of all. I'll never forget it.
Player
Me, too. I'll never forget your starry sky.
Kanan
Right. Hm? My starry sky?
Player
Your eyes are sparkling just like the stars in the sky. And they're sparkling in a different way from when you were talking about the sea.
Player
Your eyes are beautiful no matter what you're doing, but when you start talking about one of your passions, they get this glittery quality that tries to suck me right in.
Kanan
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait. Stop!
Player
Did I say something weird?
Kanan
Don't give me that. Oh gosh, my face is piping hot.
Player
Piping hot? But it's so cold tonight.
Kanan
That's not at all what I meant! Here, I'll let you use the chart, so look up at the stars.
Player
Oh, okay. Umm, where's Aquarius? Ah! Isn't that star… Wait, maybe not. Kanaaan, I can't figure it out by myself!
Kanan
Sure, sure, don't pout. But wow, tonight has been so fun it's really going to be unforgettable.
