Ch. 9 Ep. 8: Come Back, Setsuna!

Setsuna announces her withdrawal from the School Idol Club because she feels as though her presence is a burden to everyone. What do μ's and Aqours do when they learn of this?

Shioriko

Excuse me. I've brought the schedule for future election activities– …No one's here. I'll just leave it– …What's this?

Shioriko

(It's Nana's pledge. I can't believe it's been placed here in plain view.)

Shioriko

(Hm?)

Shioriko

Introduce a social networking app for the school dedicated to creating a space where students can realize their passions.

Shioriko

Post via app for rapid spread of information within the student council. Different categories for posts include studies, clubs, social, facilities, etc. to boost circulation.

Shioriko

Support students through prioritizing their independence by having them think and choose for themselves.

Shioriko

I see. So what she said at the public debate wasn't just a passing thought. I thought this would be an easy battle, but it looks like I need to reevaluate my opponent.

Shioriko

But her foundations are still mistaken. She's a student herself, so there's no point if the benefits of this pledge don't apply to her.

[Fade in/out.]

Chika

What?! Setsuna quit the club?!

Honoka

Why did it have to come to that? Was the result of the public debate really that bad?

Player

While the public debate did end with Mifune having the upper hand, I feel like that's not the only reason.

Nozomi

Eli-chi, you mentioned that you'd gotten a few messages and calls from Setsuna, right?

Eli

Yes, Dia and I did. She said she wanted our opinions as student council presidents.

Nozomi

Then let us ask you two. Did something seem off about her when you spoke to her?

Dia

Well, we sent messages to her out of concern following the public debate, but nothing seemed particularly out of the ordinary at the time. Right?

Eli

Yes, that's right. She did mention that her opponent has the upper hand, but her resolve to rally seemed stronger than her disappointment.

Player

We tried to ask her more about it, but…

Nico

Argh, geez! Nothing will get solved by just yapping about it! It's time to ring her phone off the hook! Call her like mad!

Nico

Grrr… C'moooon! Why won't she answer?!

Mari

Okay! I'll give it a try this time!

Mari

She's not answering… Why, oh, why, Setsu?!

Maki

She won't answer my calls, either.

Kotori

No good for me as well.

You

Me too.

Hanamaru

I wonder why. There aren't many things she can do alone, zura.

Ruby

Yeah. Being alone is so disheartening.

Yoshiko

Hey now, you two! Don't you get all teary-eyed! If we can't get to her by phone, then…

Yoshiko

That's right!! I'll use my fallen angel telepathic powers and…!

Hanayo

How about writing a letter?

Yoshiko

Listen to me!

Kanan

Yes, yes, we'll try out your telepathy next time. A letter sounds like a great idea! All right, let's all do this together!

Karin

I wonder if she'll read our letter.

Ayumu

Our feelings might get across better through written words rather than a text message.

Rin

That's right! Then we can bring Setsuna back!

Ai

We can't even go talk to her if we wanted to because she's cooped up in the student council room all the time lately.

Shizuku

When we see her in the hallway, she avoids eye contact and quickly walks away. We're afraid of hurting her by talking to her, so we've been holding ourselves back.

Umi

Is that so? That must've been tough. But don't give up! We need to tell Setsuna how important she is to us!

Rina

We have to tell her she's special to us.

Emma

Rina, let's write a letter, together.

Kasumi

Considering the circumstances, I'm going to write a reeeeeeeeeally long letter!

Player

Honoka, Chika, I'm sorry, but do you two mind taking care of the rest?

Honoka

Not at all! You're going to go see Setsuna, right? I figured you'd say that. It'll be fine! Leave it to us!

Chika

We'll continue preparations for the School Idol Festival, so don't worry about it! That, and the letter to Setsuna, too!

Player

Thank you! I'll go see her!

[Fade in/out.]

Player

I've finally managed to meet with you, Setsuna.

Nana

Huh? What are you doing here?

Player

You've been avoiding us lately, and you won't let us see you in the student council room. I camped here waiting for you since all students come through here.

Player

Let's have a proper talk. I just met up with everyone from μ's and Aqours. Everyone is worried sick about you.

Nana

I know. I've received all of their phone calls.

Player

None of us want you to quit being a school idol, Setsuna.

Player

But we also understand that you need to give it your all for the student council presidential election. If that's the case, then you can put your effort into both…

Nana

That's the problem! Everybody helps me so generously. That's exactly why I figured I had to quit the club.

Player

What do you mean?

Nana

Now is the time for everyone to work together as one in preparation for the School Idol Festival. I can't make them do anything unnecessary.

Player

It's not unnecessary!

Nana

But you and the others forgot to send messages about our gatherings and about the songs for the mini live show, right? Because you were helping me.

Player

Well… They were just little slips of the mind. We'll be more careful from now on!

Nana

They might have been little slip-ups this time, but you don't know what might happen next time. It'll be too late to act once something has happened.

Player

Setsuna…

Player

But that doesn't mean you should have to sacrifice yourself in all of this. If we all work hard together, then we can win the election and…

Nana

Some things cannot be achieved by working in half measures.

Nana

Winning against Mifune is no easy task. Similarly, reviving the School Idol Festival is no easy task either.

Nana

Which is why I want you to focus solely on bringing the School Idol Festival back, not half-heartedly, but wholeheartedly.

Player

There's no point in having the School Idol Festival without you, Setsuna! Without you, it'd just be…

Nana

So you're just going to give up? Is that the extent of your love for school idols?

Player

No way I'd give up!

Nana

Then please, respect my choice of method. I will retain the student council presidency no matter what, and I will protect the club.

Nana

This is the path I have chosen to bring back the School Idol Festival!

Player

Well, what about YOUR love of school idols? What will happen to that?!

Nana

*Gasp* …That's the end of this conversation. It's late now, so you should also hurry on home and rest.
