Ch. 4 Ep. 1: Rising Expectations

After seeing the detail with which Dia records Aqours' activities, you decide you want to do the same for Nijigasaki. You spend your time productively, and before you know it the festival is only a week away.

Chika

Just one more week until the Summer Festival!

You

The town's been getting more and more in the festival spirit. I'm so excited that I find myself practically running everywhere.

Riko

Yeah, and you almost tripped this morning because of that.

Chika

The happi Ruby and the others designed is incredible, too!

Ruby

*Giggle* Thank you! I can't wait to see everyone in it.

Player

No more black magic cape.

Hanamaru

Yeah, now we have a wholesome design, zura.

Yoshiko

Urgh… I only compromised because I had no choice. Be grateful for Yohane's magnanimity!

Chika

I always get a strange feeling before something fun happens. It's exciting, but a little scary, too.

Mari

It seems like my voltage might burn! It's the something before the storm!

Kanan

The calm. The calm before the storm. You used it wrong, by the way.

You

Speaking of storms… Did everyone see the weather?

Riko

The typhoon? The projected path doesn't come near us, but I'm still a little worried.

Kanan

It might not rain, but it will probably be very windy.

Yoshiko

Rain on a field trip, a cold before a school outing… Will the heavens curse Yohane yet again?

Ruby

Yoshiko, don't say that. Saying it out loud will jinx it.

Dia

Everyone, calm down! The typhoon is concerning, but we can't stop prep! We have to do all we can.

You

Right. Worrying won't get us anywhere.

Dia

Well then, let's check the schedule for the day of the Summer Festival.

Dia

It starts at 10 am on Saturday. After an opening speech from the Festival Committee president, all other events, including the stage events, will begin.

Chika

There's gonna be a dance, taiko drum performance, and talk show, right?

Hanamaru

Lots of food carts too, zura!

Dia

Our job is to oversee the Bon dance contest and the food cart sales, help at the main tent, and broadcast the tourist guide. Have we finished that yet?

Hanamaru

Yes! After lots of adjustments, we finally came up with something to be proud of, zura.

Ruby

I'm still practicing the script. I'll do my best introducing Numazu to everyone at the festival!

Dia

We're counting on you. We are also to perform our own choreographed Bon dance.

Kanan

That's not a problem at the moment. We finished the choreography, and lots of people came to the dance lesson.

Mari

The video hits are steadily climbing, too. We made an eccellente Bon dance, thanks to you.

Player

I'm glad I could be of some help.

Hanamaru

Eccellente? What's that?

Yoshiko

Excellent in Italian. You should understand that much.

Dia

We will be selling original food dishes at the food area. How is that coming along?

You

Swell! We've got ingredients and equipment ready. We've gone through all the necessary formalities too.

Hanamaru

Oh yeah, Yoshiko's takoyaki was actually way better than I imagined, zura.

Ruby

It's a flavor safe for humans.

Yoshiko

Hmph, but of course. Creating a flavor pleasantly stimulating for a human's tongue is no trouble for Yohane.

You

It took a while for you to drop the habanero flavor though.

Yoshiko

Please forget about that.

Dia

There will be a mikoshi shrine procession and a shagiri competition on the main shopping street in front of the station.

Chika

A mikoshi shrine! That really makes a festival!

Mari

I want to try carrying the mikoshi shrine, too! Don't the gods ride inside the mikoshi? I might be able to see a god if I get close enough!

Riko

I don't think gods are that easily seen.

Player

What's a shagiri?

Hanamaru

Shagiri is like accompaniment music to traditional performances, zura. It gets really exciting with all the gongs and taiko drums.

Dia

The festival spans larger than the places I just mentioned. Please read the schedules I handed out for the details.

Dia

As for our live show, we'll be performing on Sunday at 6:30 pm on a special stage.

Kanan

6:30 pm… That makes it the finale of the festival. That's a little nerve-racking.

Mari

It's too late to say that! It's an honor to be the final act of the festival. Hold your head high during our performance!

You

Yeah, the song is almost done, too. I can't wait for lots of people to hear it. Right, Chika?

Chika

What?! Y-Yeah!

Player

(Chika?)

Riko

…

Dia

A video of the festival will be made. We were asked to take a few photos.

Dia

I was hoping to ask you to be in charge of it. Will you help us with that?

Player

M-Me?! Are you sure?

Kanan

Why not? You might be able to snap things from a different perspective, not being from Numazu and all.

Player

Okay. Leave it to me!

Dia

Thank you.

Mari

Take some good pictures, please.

Player

Sure!
