Ch. 22 Ep. 5: Those Who Advance and Those Who Recede

The Club members go to cheer on Aqours at their live show. There, they learn that Mia is from an internationally famous musical family. When Rina returns to school, she finds Mia collapsed from hunger, and gets to know Mia better.

Player

Everyone, sorry! I didn't think that would happen.

Emma

You had no control over it. Nobody could've predicted that.

Player

But it's a shame you got stopped partway through. I feel bad for everyone who came to watch you perform.

Player

And, above all, I'm sorry I wasn't able to give you all a chance to sing to the very end.

Ayumu

Don't be sorry. It's not your fault.

Shizuku

Ayumu's right. All we have to do is try hard again next time.

Player

Yeah…

Rina

I'm happy so many people came to watch our guerrilla gig. Rina-chan Board says, “All smiles.”

Kanata

I know, right? The surprise and joy of it has made my little eyes open up to almost double their normal size!

Setsuna

We have had an increase in the number of people coming to watch us, but I can't believe it's increased to the extent that they don't fit into the venue.

Setsuna

It made sense that the school monitors had to step in this time, for everyone's safety.

Kasumi

It's a shame that the show got suspended partway, but everyone's finally realized that the Club is more amazing than the Association now.

Kasumi

At last, it feels like the time has come for that pesky Lanzhu to kneel down before me!

Shizuku

Oh, you used the phrase “kneel down” correctly, Kasumi. That means you've memorized it properly. Good girl.

Kasumi

Shh! I said, shh! This is my time to shine right now!

Ayumu

*Giggle* Looks like you're all getting along and having your little study sessions again.

Rina

Kasumi causes a bit of trouble because she dozes off.

Kasumi

R-Rinako! Not you too! Don't listen to them, Ayumu! Weeeehhh… That's not even what we're supposed to be talking about right now!

Player

*Laugh* I'm glad no one's down in the dumps. But I am worried about the people who were looking forward to the show and came to watch you all. We've disappointed them…

Rina

I think we're fine on that front. Look at the comments online.

Kasumi

Let's see… “It was only a guerrilla gig, but SO many people came to watch!” “Everyone ran off because the monitors came to break it up midway, but it was so much fun.”

Ayumu

There are also a lot of other positive comments. Nobody seems to be disappointed at all.

Setsuna

She's right. If anything, it looks like people enjoyed the little ruckus.

Player

That makes me feel a little bit better, then. It'd be a problem if that happened next time as well, though. I just want everyone to perform a proper live show.

Emma

Yeah. We want people to hear our songs.

Shizuku

I'm with Emma. We've been working hard to grow and improve ourselves, so we want everyone to see the fruits of our labor.

Rina

I want to go and show everyone.

Kanata

We might need to think of a new way to do this so that the same mess-up doesn't happen again.

Player

A new way, huh?

[Fade in/out.]

Online Comment

The School Idol Club's live shows are more fun than the School Idol Association's ones.

Online Comment

The Association is impressive because they're like a group of pros, but the Club's shows are neat because it feels like we're in on the fun together with them.

Mia

Excuse me? Do they hear themselves?

Mia

It must be nice to be satisfied with such child's play.

Mia

I guess there's no way the likes of those people would understand the songs I write.

Mia

…

Mia

But I won't stand for such carefree numbskulls soiling the Taylor name with these opinions.

Mia's Comment

The Association is way better. There's just no comparison. The Club's live shows are so unprofessional. You should open your eyes and see the truth for yourself.

Mia

There. How about that? You can't argue with that, can you?

Online Comment

“The Association's live shows are incredible, for sure, but the Club's putting up a good fight.” “I get which one you prefer, but I like the Club better.”

Mia

There's just no reasoning with amateurs who don't have a clue about music.

Mia's Comment

I have absolutely no idea what the appeal of the Club's songs is when compared to the Association's polished ones. What's so good about them? Can someone who knows tell me?

Mia

Heh. As if anyone's gonna be able to come up with a decent response to—

Online Comment

Maybe it's just how well-matched the songs are to their members?

Online Comment

I totally get that. The Club's songs can only be sung by those members themselves.

Online Comment

I wanna be immersed in the world that only the Club can create.

Mia

*Sigh* Songs only they can sing? That just won't cut it in the world of music. Songs are absolute. A song's worth isn't determined by its performer.

Mia

None of these amateurs get it.

Mia

I'm a member of the Taylor family! I'm a genius! There's no way I'd be outshined by the Club!

Mia

It's not even funny that I'm forced to play along with a bunch of schoolkids and their totally suburban culture.

Mia

I'll show them exactly what the real deal sounds like. Their trash won't compare to what I write. I'll prove it by writing a special song. That'll shut them up!

Mia

Just you watch. It'll be done in a flash. I'll write a legendary song that'll go down in history before you even have a chance to blink!

[Fade in/out.]

Lanzhu

Mia! Dinner time!

Lanzhu

Come on! I've prepared a T-bone steak just for you, today! Me! The great Lanzhu! Chow down on some meat and boost up your energy and strength!

Mia

Huh? You brought it all the way here from home?

Lanzhu

Don't get all embarrassed now. It's just me. We're such close friends, you and me.

Mia

Sorry, but I don't want any. I'm coming up with a song right now, so leave me alone.

Lanzhu

Oh! Really? Then I'll leave you to it. I'm really looking forward to that song of yours. Hurry up and let me listen to it when it's done!

Lanzhu

I'll leave your food here, so make sure you eat that meat up! See ya.

[Fade in/out.]

Mia

Oh my gosh, how long have I been spacing out?!

Mia

I gotta write a song to silence them all, right?! This should be a piece of cake for me!

Mia

Why? Why?! I'm not getting any inspiration coming to me at all. I've already finished my analysis, but there's so much going on in my head that the melody's being drowned out.

Mia

What's the big idea?! What's the meaning of all this?!
