Japanese-Style Thanksgiving Day Ep. 1
Honoka
It just doesn't feel like fall without grilled saury!
Chika
It really suits the season, doesn't it? Oh, but chestnuts are tasty too! Whether they're in a chestnut cream cake, or chestnut rice…
Ruby
I think my favorite seasonal food is sweet potato. Nothing drives home that autumn is here like a roasted sweet potato.
Rina
We can't forget about mushrooms either.
Mia
What are you all getting so worked up about?
Nozomi
Oh, Mia! We were just talking about fall flavors.
Mia
Hmmm. I don't know much about that kinda stuff.
Nozomi
You have a holiday called Thanksgiving Day in America, don't you? Wouldn't the food that you eat on that day count as fall flavors?
Honoka
“Thanksgiving”? What does that even mean?
Nozomi
I'm sure that Mia is way more of an expert on it than I am.
Mia
Uh, maybe “expert” is a bit much, but anyone who lives in the States knows what Thanksgiving is. It's an American holiday that takes place in the fall.
Mia
It's a day to meet up at home with family and relatives. You get together with your loved ones and eat stuff like turkey, mashed potatoes, and pumpkin pie.
Rina
I see… Oh, no kidding. You can see all kinds of images if you just search online.
Nozomi
Whoaaa, what a feast! It all looks so tasty.
Ruby
It does. They even have desserts. I wish I could try them.
Chika
Seriously. My stomach's growling just from imagining the taste!
Nozomi
And everyone in the photographs seems to be having such a good time.
Rina
Is it like this at your place too, Mia?
Mia
Nope, it's WAY better. And the spread my mom serves is a whole lot tastier as well! Though I can't have any this year…
Honoka
Oh, hey! Guys! We should hold our own Thanksgetting Day celebration!
Nozomi
It's “Thanksgiving,” Honoka, not “Thanksgetting.”
Honoka
Oh, right!
Honoka
Um, anyway. It sounds really fun, so I wanna make a bunch of food and throw a party!
Chika
I'm in! I want to have a feast with everyone too!
Ruby
Me too!
Rina
Yeah, I'd like to try it out as well.
Mia
I don't think you guys are aware of how intense Thanksgiving is. Like, intense enough that some families prepare the day before. Won't it be a pain for you guys to do this?
Nozomi
Our key to victory here is that we think it'll be more fun than bothersome. Or are you just shy because you don't think your cooking skills are up to scratch, Mia?
Mia
Th-That's not it at all! Fine. If you're gonna say stuff like that, then you can count me in as well!
Rina
Yay! Rina-chan Board says, “Excited.”
Honoka
So, let's have a party with everyone this weekend!
