Yohane and Hanayo's Whodunit Caper Ep. 1
Kanan
One, two, three, four… Hold on, you guys!
Yoshiko
What is it? We were just getting to the good part.
Kanan
The good part? What do you think you're practicing, exactly?
Yoshiko
We're practicing an all-group musical that we'll put on as a mini-segment during our next live show.
Kanan
That's right. And you volunteered to play the lead role of detective. That means you're the leader of this musical, Yoshiko!
Kanan
I think you should be more aware of your surroundings.
Yoshiko
Be aware of my surroundings? Am I not doing a good job? Do I fail as the leader?
Kanan
You're not failing! You wrote the script and cast the parts. You're working so hard! It's just…
Yoshiko
Just what? Tell me exactly what I did wrong!
Kanan
Okay, let me be straight with you. This play is about a detective and her assistant, or the lead and supporting roles, working together as one unit, right?
Kanan
I get that you're the detective and Hanayo is the assistant, but in your scenes together, the audience can't see Hanayo when you're standing in front of her.
Yoshiko
But shouldn't the lead role stand in front for more impact? The musical won't be as exciting if I blend into the background.
Yoshiko
My little demons are coming to see me, so I need to be visible to them. They're counting on me.
Kanan
Well… I admire your enthusiasm, but you two didn't say the catchphrase in sync in the last scene.
Yoshiko
I'll just practice it more, okay?
Eli
You've made your point, Kanan. Don't be discouraged, Yoshiko.
Eli
You could use the same advice, Hanayo.
Hanayo
Huh? M-Me?
Eli
You're the assistant, so your role is to support the detective, but there's more to it than that.
Eli
You're partners, complementing each other's traits and working together to solve a mysterious incident. You're two sides of the same coin. I think you should show that more.
Hanayo
O-Okay. I'll give it a try! Let's go again, please!
[Fade in/out.]
Kanan
All right everyone, let's call it a day!
Yoshiko
I'm leaving now. Come on, Hanayo!
Hanayo
O-Okay! Good work today, everyone!
Kanata
Yoshiko and Hanayo didn't act like a team today, even though they're supposed to be the detective and assistant.
Eli
I can tell they're trying, though…
Ayumu
Maybe doing a musical is a bit too challenging.
Eli
It is difficult, but we all agreed to put on a musical, so we have a collective duty to see it through.
Kanata
Yeah. Yoshiko's been really excited for it. She's trying her best, too. She was talking things over with Hanayo as they were leaving.
Ayumu
It's true. I'm just worried that she's trying so hard that it's giving her tunnel vision, though…
Eli
I know. It's good that she's staying accountable, but I don't want her to agonize over it.
Eli
It would be nice if Assistant Hanayo gave Detective Yoshiko her support, both in the play and in real life, but…that's easier said than done, I guess.
Ayumu
I wonder if there's any way we can help them?
Ayumu, Eli, Kanan
Hmm…
Kanata
Heh heh, never fear, Kanata is here! I actually have a good idea.
