Riko Ep. 4: A Song for Aqours
Riko is experimenting every day to try to write songs just for Aqours. Seeing she can't come up with something she likes, you ask her for a favor.
Riko
Everyone in Aqours, this town we live in, the school we go to…
Riko
School idols are deeply connected to their schools and towns, so I thought it would be best to put a taste of that stuff in the songs I write.
Player
Right. You want people to find out more about where you're from, so it can act as some PR, too. Two birds with one stone!
Riko
Yeah. I want to make a song for Aqours who support this town, and for everyone in this town who supports us.
Riko
I think that my responsibility as the songwriter is to make music that returns all of the love we receive.
Player
(Riko… So that's how she felt about writing songs.)
Riko
So, I'm trying really hard to research a lot about the town and school and put that into my music.
Player
So what were your searching, exactly?
Riko
Umm. I tried observing everyone in Aqours. From morning at school until we go home after club.
Player
Wait… You did?
Riko
Yeah. Reflecting the image of our members is important in our songs. I wanted to observe them naturally, so I didn't want to ask questions, but…
Riko
I had to ask about what they do at home and stuff because I can't watch them there.
Riko
I also asked about stuff like how they think of the school, Uchiura, and Numazu.
Riko
Not only that, but I researched the town's history and culture and went all around to observe the sights and how people move around.
Player
Wow, that's a lot more work than I thought it'd be.
Option 1: “But still, your songs didn't leave you satisfied?” |
---|
Player But still, your songs didn't leave you satisfied? Riko Yeah. This feeling is dragging me down and affecting my other work. I don't know what to do. |
Option 2: “Now you know a whole lot, right?” |
Player Now you know a whole lot, right? Riko Yes. I gained knowledge, but that's all. Something decisive seems to be missing, but I can't figure out what it is. |
Riko
That was when I found out my teacher was having a concert, so I thought she might be able to give me some advice.
Player
You didn't want to ask Chika and them?
Riko
No. It'd be cold if I said it didn't involve them, but I just wanted to ask someone who had no connection with the town or school.
Riko
I thought maybe I was looking at things too narrowly from too much research.
Player
I see… So what did your teacher say?
Riko
She said I was thinking too much. She told me to let my heart be free. But…
Player
But you couldn't accept that.
Riko
If my song writing is too free, it'll lose the essence of Numazu and Aqours.
Riko
The music I write isn't just for myself.
Player
Riko…
Player
Hey, can you let me hear you play? Like right now?
Riko
Right now?! What's gotten into you?
Player
I guess I just want to listen to it. Is that a no?
