Chika Ep. 23: Cooking Time!
Now that you've got all of the ingredients from the supermarket, it's time to start baking! Will you and the others be able to make some delicious sweets for the Aqours girls?
Kanata
Have you two washed your hands properly?
Chika
Yup! Squeaky clean!
Player
It's finally time to make some sweets! Let's all bake up a storm.
Kanata
Okay, what should we bake first?
Chika
Pound cake! A regular one, a chocolate one, a matcha one… Oh! And I wanna put a whole bunch of dried fruit into one too!
Kanata
Goootcha! Then let's start with baking the regular one first. There are equal portions of all the ingredients in a plain pound cake, so it's a cinch to weigh them out!
Chika
Yeah, that's right! Riko told me that it's called a pound cake because you can make it with a pound of each of the ingredients!
Option 1: “I had no idea.” |
---|
Player I had no idea. I guess there are real reasons behind the names of certain sweets. Chika It might be fun to try looking into them! |
Option 2: “Riko is a cook herself, right?” |
Player Come to think of it, Riko is a cook herself, right? Chika The sweets she makes are pretty tasty too! |
Kanata
All the ingredients should be at room temp, right? The eggs are all good! The butter is…still hard. Let's pop it into the microwave.
Player
Won't it melt if you heat it up?
Kanata
You just need to heat it for a bit at a low wattage! That way, you can soften it up without it completely melting.
Chika
Really? I'll give it a shot! Set the microwave to low power and then… Switch on the heat!
[Fade in/out.]
Kanata
Mix the sugar in and, once the butter is fluffy, gradually add the beaten eggs.
Player
Gradually… L-Like this?
Kanata
That's right. Give it a good mix every time you add some in and repeat that process. Take care so that the mixture doesn't separate.
Chika
HIYAAAHHHHHH!
Kanata
Yup, yup. That's the way!
Player
I-Is it really okay? It looks like she might carve the mixing bowl up with all that gusto.
Kanata
I'm sure it'll be just fiiine! In you go! I'm throwing in the last of the egg now that you've mixed it up nicely.
[Fade in/out.]
Kanata
Last is the cake flour and baking powder. You can just dump it all in at once.
Player
It really comes together and looks like a dough once you add the flour in. There's a subtly sweet and mysterious fragrance to it.
Chika
Once we mix this and bake it, we'll have part one of our present done! Wait up for this, guys!
Chika
TAKE THAAAAAAT!
Kanata
Oh! This time, once you've added the dry ingredients, don't stir it around too much. Fold it in using swift motions.
Chika
Swift motions!
Kanata
Yep, yep! Looking good!
Player
Chika's been getting more and more into this ever since we started making the cakes… I gotta give it my all too! HIYAAAHHH!
